Centrul de Studii și Cercetări Economice

Mission and Objectives

The Center of Economic Studies and Research (CESR) operates within Moldova State University, Faculty of Economic Sciences, as a research and policy advisory center in economic matters. The Center’s mission encompasses three principal objectives: conducting rigorous economic research, fostering international academic collaboration, and providing evidence-based analytical support to public institutions and the private sector.

CESR serves as the institutional foundation supporting the Moldovan School of Economics, an autonomous educational initiative officially approved by the Ministry of Education and USM in 2024. This alignment positions the Center as a bridge between economic research and policy-relevant applications in Moldova’s development context.

Research and Applied Activities

The Center conducts theoretical and applied research across areas of economic policy, with emphasis on transition economics, development, and evidence-based policy analysis. Research activities address both academic questions and practical challenges facing Moldova and the region’s economic development.

CESR provides consulting and analytical services to government agencies, international organizations, and private sector entities. This applied dimension ensures that the Center’s academic work remains relevant to policy formulation and institutional reform processes. The Center’s analytical capacity serves as a resource for evidence-based decision-making.

The Center maintains a commitment to educational quality, methodological rigor and policy relevance, positioning its research output to inform public discourse and contribute to Moldova’s integration into European and international research networks.

Activity Plans and Reports

CESR operates according to activity plans that outline research priorities, collaborative initiatives, and institutional development objectives. The Center supports academic publishing in ranked journals, policy reports, and advisory materials for institutional and governmental stakeholders.

International Collaborations

International research collaboration constitutes a core dimension of CESR’s institutional strategy. The Center maintains partnerships with European and international research institutions, enabling knowledge transfer, collaborative research projects, and integration into academic networks.

Institutional Partners:

  • University of Essex (United Kingdom)
  • Forum for Research on Eastern Europe and Emerging Economies (FREE Network)
  • Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE)
  • International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University (ISET)
  • Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education – Economics Institute (CERGE-EI)
  • Association of Young Economists
  • American University in Armenia

Partnerships facilitate joint research initiatives, faculty and researcher exchanges, and access to expertise, thereby positioning Moldovan economic research within broader European and international academic frameworks.

CESR welcomes additional collaborative arrangements with research institutions, international organizations, and policy centers to expand Moldova’s participation in international economic research and enhance the regional and country’s analytical capacity.

Academic and Policy Events

The Center organizes academic conferences, summer schools, research seminars, and policy roundtables that convene researchers, policymakers, and practitioners around economic policy questions. These forums serve as platforms for presenting research findings, facilitating policy dialogue, and strengthening professional networks within the regional research community.

Event Categories:

  • International Research Conferences
  • Invited Lectures
  • Research Seminars
  • Policy Roundtables
  • Methodological Workshops

These activities contribute to research capacity development, facilitate knowledge exchange between academic and policy communities, and support Moldova’s engagement with international economic research networks.
