Methodical Center „Casa Mare”

“CASA MARE” is the largest and most beautiful room in peasant houses, intended for guests and celebrations. Peasants did not live in it. Here, hosts welcomed guests with aromatic wine and traditional dishes. The most important family events were organized in the “Big House”: the birth of a child, the engagement of young couples, welcoming guests during the village feast, and the farewell ceremony for a deceased family member.

In the State University of Moldova, Faculty of Economic Sciences, Department of Economics, Marketing, and Tourism, a methodical center named “CASA MARE” was opened in the summer of 2020-2021. It serves as a space for conducting practical lessons for students and for welcoming guests. The name of the methodical center comes from its interior design, adorned with various traditional Moldovan elements, allowing students to appreciate the art of beauty and cultivate Moldovan national culture.

The center was opened with the support of the Solcan family, Victor and Elizaveta, from the village of Putinești, Florești district. The logistics and transportation system were contributed by the Solcan family’s niece, Mrs. Natalia Antoci, Phd, associate prof. working in the Department of Economics, Marketing, and Tourism.

The initiative was supported by the department head, at that time Mrs. Maria Hămuraru, Phd., Associate professor, who has now been replaced by Mrs. Veronica Bulat, Phd., Associate professor. Mrs. Antoci, Phd., Associate professor along with other department colleagues, contributed to the arrangement of the methodical center, which includes numerous traditional Moldovan elements such as carpets dating back to the years 1943 and 1940, bed linens, clay vessels, various embroideries displayed as paintings, some of them approximately 86 years old, the dowry chest, and the “sovca,” dating back to the year 1920, among others. All these precious traditional objects were inherited from Mrs. Antoci’s ancestors, Pantelimon and Olga.

The “CASA MARE” within the State University of Moldova presents a distinctive room with multiple decorative objects, especially textiles and wooden furniture, arranged according to a certain code based on tradition. Each element is welcomed, carrying a certain load of meaning and communicative value. Although there is freedom in choosing the organization of the big house, certain traditions passed down through generations are respected in its decor, indicating a correlation between its owners and the society in which they live. The furniture typology in the big house corresponds to the functionality of the room: for rest, storage of items, serving meals, etc.

Currently, this laboratory serves as a refuge for professors, students, and guests of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, hosting numerous events.

The mission of the center is to promote spiritual and national values, use national traditions and customs, embody beauty and aesthetics, and highlight the heritage of our nation.
